2024-04-08

Children are not just the future of our nation, but also the hope of our society. The healthy growth of children is a precious asset that drives the progress and sustainability of our country. As living standards rise, there is a growing focus on the health of children across all sectors of society, making it a major topic related to social development. The fast-paced development in this modern society brought numerous challenges in the health of children, including food safety concerns, lifestyle changes, and overwhelming social and academic pressures, all of which negatively affect children’s overall health and growth.

Recent reports from the National Health Commission show that the rates of overweight and obesity among children under the age of 6 in China are 6.8% and 3.6%, respectively, and the numbers are on the rise each year. Relevant surveys conducted by the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention brought attention to a common concern for improper food combination and imbalanced nutrition in the diets of children in China. Many children are not getting enough of the necessary food groups, falling short of the recommended dietary guidelines. Furthermore, 58% of children have been found to be picky eaters. The myopia rate among children and adolescents across the nation is alarmingly high at 53.6%, even 14.5% of 6-year-olds are affected by this condition. Additionally, the prevalence of emotional and behavioural problems among preschool children stands at 8.3%, with psychological issues impacting up to 13.97% of children aged 4 to 16. The depression rates among children and adolescents worldwide are also alarming, with 3.8% and 8.3% affected, respectively. These numbers highlight the pressing need for more attention and support to enhance the physical and mental health of children.

Children’s health is closely relevant to family happiness. The past decade has seen remarkable growth in the children’s health market, making it a “golden decade”. In 2023, the children’s health market in China reached RMB 160 billion Yuan, with an annual growth rate exceeding 20%. In this context, China is placing greater emphasis on advancing children’s health by introducing various favourable policies to bolster the industry. With the rapid development of the health industry, the children’s health market holds immense potential.

The first edition of Shanghai Children’s Health & Wellness Fair 2024 (CHWF) will be held from 15 to 17 November 2024 at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Centre. The nation’s first exhibition dedicated to children’s health will introduce new concepts of children’s health from a comprehensive and multi-dimensional perspective.

This exhibition is set to attract 200 high-quality agencies and companies, showcasing exhibits that are centered around three main categories: children’s healthcare, children’s health food, and children’s health products. The Children’s Healthcare Sector will bring together children’s medical institutions, sports rehabilitation centres, vision care, oral hygiene and mental health institutions. Additionally, it will offer a wide range of children’s health solutions, as well as healthcare and nutritional products tailored specifically for children. The Children’s Healthy Food Sector will offer a selection of healthy snacks and condiments specially for children, and complementary food for infants and toddlers. The Children’s Health Products Sector will feature a range of products including children’s cleaning and personal care items, sports equipment, and safety products. Additionally, the exhibition will feature a variety of professional forums and activities where experts will engage in discussions on children’s physical and mental health.

The exhibition offers a unique platform for participants to sell products, launch new items, promote their brands, expand their distribution channels, and collaborate across different industries. This three-day show will draw in a diverse visitor of families, parenting practitioners, and childcare professionals, providing them with the chance to explore and educate themselves on the newest trends in children’s health products. Additionally, the exhibition will specifically target retailers of children’s health products, e-commerce companies, distributors, and other professionals in the industry for product selection. CHWF will coincide with the China Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair (CCBF), bringing together experts in children’s education and content creation to foster networking and collaboration among professionals in the children’s health sector.
